• HIPPOLYTE LÉON DENIZARD RIVAIL (October 3, 1804 - March 31, 1869) colorized photo by Fernando Ribeiro.
He was an influential frenchman, pedagogue, teacher, grammarian, translator, linguist, philosopher and author of several books. Under the pseudonym of "Allan Kardec" it was noted as the encoder of Spiritism. He was a disciple of the educational reformer Pestalozzi and one of the pioneers in scientific research on mediumistic phenomena, subjects that used to be considered inadequate for scientific and rational investigation.
He adopted his pseudonym "Allan Kardec" for a differentiation of the Spiritist Codification in relation to his previous pedagogical works of great prominence.
